Josie has had a boyfriend at school all year. Recently, he started to actually notice her. Since the first day of school, tommy has been josie's "boyfriend". She talked about him endlessly:. his red hair, his freckles, what he did at recess, how many graham crackers he ate at snack time, etc. She was a little obsessed. She played with him a lot in the beginning of the school year .. or played next to him and looked at him. Josie doesn't talk much at school. Eventually he started playing with other kids & josie played with some girls. A few weeks ago we found out that tommy was on josie's t-ball team. Oy! Josie was SO excited that her boyfriend was on his team (she actually calls him that, too).
So, last week josie came home from school & said tommy told her & their teacher that they were on the same team. Love blossomed again. All last week they teeter-tottered together & when i went to pick josie up, the two lovebirds were sitting on the bench, looking at each other. It was cute. One day last week josie wore a shirt with a heart on it & tommy said to her "did you wear that shirt because you love me?". Josie said she didn't answer, which i believe. The day after that, she wanted to wear a shirt that says "I love mom", with a heart for love. Before school she said she wanted to change the "m" to a "t", so it said "I love Tom" instead. Then another night, out of the blue, she said that tommy has hot hands. I asked what she meant & she said his hands were hot & sweaty when they held hands. They held hands!?!?!?!?! I asked josie if she stopped holding his hand when it got hot & she said NO!
Josie's first t-ball practice didn't go so well. She did her usual freak out routine. It was a little chaotic, with kids & parents running around, so that made her even more nervous. Her anxiety level was through the roof. She sat on the bench the whole time, clinging to me. It makes me so sad to see her like that. I hope some of her anxiety leaves as she gets older. Tommy (her boyfriend...remember?) even asked if she wanted to hit the ball. Nope. She's so good at t-ball at home, in her comfort zone. Hopefully the next practice goes a little better. It can't go much worse. And hopefully tommy doesn't break her little heart.
