Fishing in the puddle 6/8/2008 E-mail
Written by Jessi

kids_fishing_6-08.jpgToday Mark took Jakob to a kid's fishing program at a state park near our house.  Josie was signed up for it, but she refused to go with him this morning.  That girl is something else.  Mark would've had to literally drag her out the door if he was taking her.

I asked jakob if he wanted to go & he was so excited.  "yah, i wanna go fishing, yah, let's go".  I think he was waiting in the van before mark even had his shoes on.

So, the boys went in the rainy weather.  They ended up not fishing because of the rain & thunderstorms.  The event served lunch & then gave out prizes.  Every kid there went home with a prize.  Mark said there was some really nice stuff.  Our nephew Michael won a "big prize" of a new bike.  I guess he was really excited, especially since it's the 2nd year in a row that he won a bike!

When the event people were calling the kids names, they said the kids had to pick out the prizes all by themselves, with absolutely no help from the parents.  If your name was called for a big prize, the choices were a bike or big wheel.  For the normal prizes there were lots of choices, fishing poles, tackle boxes, water toys, floaties, tons of stuff.

When mark & jakob were looking at the prizes, jakob saw a hula hoop he really liked.  Mark was worried that jakob would pick that for his prize (we already have 2 at home) and mark really wanted jakob to pick a fishing pole, since he doesn't have one.  They had to keep telling jakob about the fishing pole, so when it was his turn to go up, he'd hopefully pick the right thing.  Michael told Jakob he thought there was a Thomas the tank engine fishing pole up there, so that pretty much sealed the deal.

When jakob's name was called, he went right to the fishing poles, looking them all over closely.  Mark figured he was looking for the thomas one.  Then the worker said "how about this one?" and handed jakob a scooby doo one.  YAY!!  Jakob won a new fishing pole!  He was so excited about it when they got home.  In the afternoon, it stopped raining long enough for the kids to try out their casting skills with their fishing poles.  Josie already had one from last year, so she used that one (though she was very jealous of jakob's new one).  They were really good at casting, too!  Of course they had to do it in the puddle in our backyard.  They didn't catch anything, though!

Its great that a puddle can keep
the kids busy for a while.

Let the kids know we will be over for fish fry in about a week!

That is an awesome picture of Josie in mid-cast!

Glad Jakob had a good time - too bad Josie didn't go. That girl! So silly.
