Norn on the bob E-mail
Written by Eric Van

Cam and Dad making goofy facesFor all of you out there with toddlers, you will know exactly what I'm talking about when I say toddler translations.  Camden is almost two and a half, and he talks and talks and talks....  Unfortunately, Sharla and I are sometimes the only ones that can understand what he's saying.  So, I've decided to help out a little bit, and provide some toddler translations for Camden.

I'll start off with Norn on the bob.  This one he says clearly, and it's when he is eating his corn on the cob.  It's hilarious, norn is his word for corn.  Sharla and I tried a throwback to the Beavis and Butthead days and asked him to say "Cornholio".  He says "Nornholio" great now, but the first time we asked him he said "Norn A-hole", which made Sharla and I just bust out laughing.

Camden's other funny word is gerk.  We've tried all that we can to get him to quit saying it.  The problem is that it means three different things.  It means work, look, and book.  So Camden saying "Daddy, gerk at the gerk" is perfectly normal. He wants daddy to look at the book.  Or if daddy is looking at the book, Camden actually conjugates the verb into "Daddy's gerking at the gerk".  "Daddy's gerking" is also a common phrase to say that daddy is working.  Camden says it so much that when Sharla says "gerk" to talk about something the dog barks because she thinks we're looking at something.  So the dog understands toddler translations already.

Camden also has his normal peculiarities that we need to work him out of.  He says gickey instead of Mickey.  He says his M's fine, so we have no idea why he says this.  We try to get him to say Mickey by saying.. "mmmmmm icky", so Camden repeats back to us "mmmm..gickey".  He thinks it's hilarious.
